Review: Darling Dark

Title: Darling Dark (Infernal Regions #1)
Author: Natalie Bennet
Genre: New Adult, Dark Fantasy

Plot: Trapped in a dark world inhabited by savages and ruled by the corrupted --Duvessa finds herself bound to a tyrant. Day in and day out she bears witness to just how cold and vicious her husband-to-be truly is. His iron fist rule strikes fear in the masses.
Reyes is ruthless and volatile --he incites both fear and inexplicable passion among those in his wake. Just as her feelings for the seductively cruel Reyes begin to grow, she learns nothing is as it appears to be. With already so much to fear, could there be something darker, more sinister lying in wait?

This book was quite a surprise; darker than my usual cup of tea but definitely good.

The author's writing style was clear and smooth, easy to read but detailed enough.
The characters were nicely delineated and Duvessa had definitely some depth.

The romance is a sick twisted one but it fits the world the writer has built; it is fitting to the great scheme of things, so to speak.
On this subject, I greatly appreciated how the author did not sugarcoat the romance at all the costs----that's right and fine in my opinion. (Personally I wanted to kick Reyes in the balls most of the time but everything he did matched his character so...)

The end and final twists left me reeling and totally pissed with Duvessa's sister.

The only complain I have is that at some point there were too many sex scenes one after an other. Mind you, they weren't badly written nor they were tedious per se but after a while of sex scene after another---I was bored. Thankfully the story picked up again soon after that.

And I must admit, I'm looking forward to get to know more of Reyes's brothers!

All in all, an entertaining read if you like the genre, and even you don't you can still give it a try.
